 "Solid debut album." 2009-07-23
By G. Achoki
I wasn’t expecting much from Jeremih, but I was pleasantly surprised. The album is filled with hits and only two misses, runaway and starting all over. It’s one of the best cds I’ve heard in a while.

 "Decent Debut" 2009-07-23
By PrinceLuva79 (Maryland)
Jeremih’s self titled debut CD brings the R&B flavor back that has been missing over the last few years. There are not too many "new" artists that I am feeling these days but Jeremih gets a pass. "Birthday Sex" is one of my faves and reminds me of some old school Jodeci or Silk, with the banging beat and sexual inuendos, "B-day Sex" is HOT!!! The CD is nice, I can put it in and let it play, "Imma Star" is quickly becoming a favorite of mine too. Jeremih gets 4 stars from me for a job well done!

 "Good party disc…" 2009-07-23
By N. Doss
Pro: Jeremih has the talent of writing catchy songs that are simply arresting club bangers.

Con: He isn’t really talking about anything serious, so you don’t get a sense of who thys guy really is.

My Favs:

That Body
B-day sex (and the remix)
Runway
Raindrops
Starting All Over
Imma Star
Jumpin… You kno what I lyke the whole damn cd, its just not talking about anything serious or personal, I expected emotion out of thys guy. But overall still a really good cd…

"A fairly adolescent release to cater to teenagers who love cute soul teen idols" 2009-07-23
By Daniel W. Kelly (Long Island, NY United States)
Think Chris Brown, Usher, and Justin Timberlake all rolled into one for a load of downtempo jams, with "hey…ho" chants thrown in constantly for radio relevance, and you’ll pretty much know what to expect from Jeremih’s CD containing the hit single Birthday Sex. Despite having an explicit warning, there isn’t really anything particularly adult or sophisticated about this release–it’s pretty much made to get young girls giggling.

The album is at its most dynamic with track 4, Runway, and it’s too bad the CD wasn’t spiced up with a couple more club tracks like that one, because the many bubblegum pop downtempo jams on here become repetitive and indistinguishable. Here’s a track by track breakdown:

1. That Body (playing off the theme of the first single, this slow jam is pure adolescent suggestive lyrics to sell to teenagers. This is the type of song that’s recorded for one purpose…to get young people thinking about bumpin’ and grindin’)

2. Birthday Sex (The slow jam version of the first single from the album can’t compare to the "uptempo mix" that is the last track on this CD. And that’s definitely a bonus to have two mixes of the hit single)

3. Break Up To Make Up (wow–the 90s are coming back. This downtempo jam definitely reminds me of something Boyz II Men would have recorded back in the day)

4. Runway (this definitely needs to be a single. This is a pumpin’ party track with an electro influence. The vocal hooks are infectious. Too bad it’s the only track like this on the disc)

5. Raindrops (a moody downtempo jam. Good chorus, verses are rap)

6. Starting All Over (not a big fan of cheesy soul ballads, which is what this is)

7. Imma Star (downtempo jam that moves along well thanks to catchy vocal riffs and chants)

8. Jumpin (track isn’t as jumpin as it could be based on its title, but it has some good energy. Just not enough bass beat)

9. Hatin on Me (another downtempo jam–by this point, they are all starting to sound the same, even if they are all catchy)

10. My Sunshine (the obligatory uplifting soul ballad. Teens will like this one)

11. My Ride (another downtempo jam. Same deal as track 9)

12. Buh Bye (interesting track, has a Justin Timberlake/Timbaland feel to it)

13. Birthday Sex (the hot uptempo mix)

 "More like melodic talking" 2009-07-22
By Shamontiel L. Vaughn (Chicago)
I recall Jeremih saying in an interview that "Birthday Sex" was more like melodic talking, but that’s the way the entire CD felt to me. If someone were to ask me do I think Jeremih can sing, I really couldn’t tell you. I know he can ride the beat, similar to the way Nelly does in songs, but there was never one track where I went "Whoa, he can really blow." None of the songs are bad. There are a couple that are equal to today’s pop music in braggadocio, such as "My Ride" and "Imma Star." The video for "Birthday Sex" is a little uncomfortable because the actress in there didn’t look like she was into him at all (and vice versa), so I prefer to just listen to the song, which I’ve liked since it was introduced to me by his label.

I respect him as a musician and an artist after hearing his back story while interviewing him, and the CD was cool. There was just nothing major on here for me to truly enjoy. I liked them, but it was just an average CD. With him being a musician, I’d held him to a higher standard considering I knew (from speaking with him) that he understood music more than your average artist, being that he said he is "a musician first." I do look forward to a sophomore album though. I think with time the CDs will improve and I like his CD just enough to stick around and see what he does next.
