The whole time I was reading this I kept thinking this is Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five. Time Traveler’s Wife does not have a war and there are no aliens. But the concept of popping up into different parts of your life is not new and innovative as people have suggested of this author. This concept was first outlined by Vonnegut. He felt that life was a circle and that most people went from the beginning to end. You were born, lived, and died. You never knew what was going to happen in the future. But Billy (and Henry in Time Traveler) have the ability to pop up in different parts of their life, past and future. And they are cognizant of it. I enjoyed the Time Traveler, I just wish people would not praise the concept as new and innovative.

TIME TRAVEL (I would not want to do it).
I found this book to very very sad. It is about the
PAST,PRESENT and FUTURE. Clare and Henry De Tamble
never get to be together for any significant amount
of time. Clare has Alba but that does not make up for
the missing husband. DO NOT plan on reading it in
few days. You’ll want to put it down and think about
it. Then go back to it.
There are over 1800 reviews. The only other books I
have noticed to have that many reviews are THE RED
TENT & POISONWOOD BIBLE.
I just don’t know what I can say that others have not.
Except, to say please read it.
(note-I read in a magazine article several years ago
that BRAD PITT & JENNIFER ANISTON had bought the movie
rites and were going to be Clare and Henry but then
they divorced)

I’m giving this 5 stars b/c the story line was so unique and I don’t think I have read about a character quite like Henry before. I loved him, with all his hang ups with girls, drugs, ect. He seemed like a very realistic person to me, besides the time travel thing. it was a beautiful story sure to become a classic, as now it is being made into a movie. The only things I didn’t like about the novel was her use of the word ‘c*nt’. I have never met a woman who actually uses that word and for someone so educated that surprised me that the author used that word so much. That part was a bit unrealistic in my mind, but thats just me. Also, she put in so much French and a little German so I couldn’t read any of that, I hope not being able to read all the foreign language didn’t let me miss something important. And Yes I felt she did a ton of name dropping in the novel, but all well. I had no idea who or what she was talking about when it came down to the literature referenced but the story itself is still worth reading.

After everyone I spoke to regarding this book absolutely extolling it for its wonderful qualities, I must say that I found this book quite lacking. It had such potential, and I was really expecting a good read, but as I got further into the story, my opinion of it subsequently decreased. I especially didn’t like the end. I almost stopped reading this book because it took about a 100 pages to really get going. But once it did, I couldn’t put it down. Not really a beach read, but a good solid book.
